Somebody’s going to get a meaningful win when Celebration hosts Poinciana Friday at 7 p.m. at Storm Field.

The Eagles, 20-12 losers to Gateway last week, would snap a 17-game losing streak dating back to 2009.

The Storm, who fell 47-7 to Lake Placid, would get back on track with a collection of young players who could prove something.

The teams have split four previous meetings.

Celebration tied their game  against the Dragons in the first quarter Quentin Lewis returned a fumbled snap 95 yards for a touchdown. Sam Wallace added the PAT.

After that, four turnovers hurt the Storm.

“It wasn’t that bad. It was 14-7 in the second quarter and we’re driving and turn it over, they score on the next play,” Storm Coach Ben Aarestad said. “Third quarter, it’s 21-7, same thing. After that the kids just lost their focus.”

Poinciana made a couple of big defensive plays, forcing three fumbles, and looked good in stretches on offense.

“A couple of turnovers ended up killing us,” PHS coach Cory Fleming said.

Mike Cirino accounted for 81 of the Eagles’ 147 yards.

Cirino forced a fumble that led to the Eagles first score.

Cirino set up the Eagles next touchdown with an 18-yard catch and a 7-yard run. Anderson Yard went over from the 1.

“He’s finding himself as an offensive weapon,” Fleming said of Cirino. “He’s building up confidence in leading the offense.”

On defense, Darius Bladek had two sacks.

?Yeah, he got after guys and blew up their backfield a few times,” Fleming said. “And we have a couple freshmen who got in there a few times after understanding what they’re doing.”

Fleming said he’s hopeful things will continue improving, especially after a going start to the week on Monday.

?A couple of guys are starting to stand out, they’re tired of watching those around them give a losing effort,” he said. “If we want to win Friday we have to execute what we do, play down to down and take care of ourselves. We’re not in a position where we can overlook anybody.”

Aarestad said Poinciana has enough athletes to pose problems.

?This is going to be a hard game for us,” he said. “They’ve got athletes who we have to contain, and I’m sure they’ll be looking at us as someone they should beat.”
