Preds’ Sippio stars

Orlando Predators receiver Bobby Sippio caught 14 passes for 166 yards and four touchdowns during the Predators 62-44 Arena League win over the New Orleans VooDoo last week at the Amway Center.

Sippio graduated from Osceola High in 1998 and has been an Arena League standout since turning pro in 2002.

He played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2007.

The Predators, 11-7, are the No. 4 seed in the opening round of the AFL playoffs which begin Friday.

The Predators will visit top-seeded Jacksonville, 14-4, Friday at 8 p.m.

The Sharks won both regular-season meetings. The game will be broadcast on the NFL Network.

Sippio won the AFL championship in 2006 as a member of the Chicago Rush.

Majors out at state

The Kissimmee Little League Majors baseball team was eliminated at the state tournament at Bonita Springs last weekend.

The team compiled a 3-0 record in winning the sectional championship at St. Cloud two weeks ago, becoming the first Kissimmee Majors team to reach the state tournament.

Take Flight Elite

The Take Flight Elite AAU junior basketball team composed of high school players from Osceola County competed at the Disney Showcase at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Wednesday.

Playing for Take Flight Elite  were Osceola’s Michael Sanchez and Stanley Turk, Ayinde Spreewell and Shadayne, of Poinciana, David Jerome, of Gateway, Oscar Alverado, of Liberty and Zach Hull, of St. Cloud. Sanchez was the Osceola News-Gazette Player of the Year last season.

The team has won eight tournaments and finished second three times this summer competing against many of the state’s elite players.

Kiss. rec softball

The city of Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration beginning Aug. 8 for all teams playing in the 2011 fall softball season.

Ten different leagues of various skill levels for men and women play weeknights and Saturdays.

Fees have been reduced to $275 per team for most leagues. The USSSA competitive men’s league and the Saturday recreational men’s league have $400 fees for a 10-game season, two umps and two sets of awards.

Registration at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex is weekdays from noon to 6 p.m. For more information, call 407-518-2504.

Thunder tryouts

The Osceola Thunder 12-U and 13-U youth baseball teams will hold tryouts Aug. 14 at the Osceola High field for the 2012 season.

Tryouts for the 12-U team are from noon to 2 p.m.; tryouts for the 13-U team are from 2 to 4 p.m.

Umpires clinic

The city of Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Department will host an umpires clinic at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 13.

This free workshop will take place at the Fortune Road Athletic Complex facilitated by the USSSA National Umpire-In-Chief Rick Robertson.

The clinic is open to anyone interested in becoming a softball umpire for the 2011 fall softball season.

Attendance at the clinic does not guarantee a position.

The Fortune Road Athletic Complex is located at 2500 Fortune Road in Kissimmee.

OYSL registration

Osceola Youth Softball League will hold registration for its fall league, which begins Sept. 6, for girls 4-14, on Aug. 13, 20 27 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Oren Brown softball complex off Hoagland Blvd.

Registration is $65. Each child needs a copy of her birth certificate.

Come ‘N Try Day is Aug. 20, and Assessment Day is Aug. 27.

Heritage volleyball

Heritage Christian School will hold its varsity camp for children in grades 6-12 Monday through Thursday.

The fee is $125 and includes a T-shirt. This camp is mandatory for all Heritage Christian players.

The walk-up fee is an additional $10. The camp is coached by Heritage Christian Coach Maria Hardwick.
