Osceola County's unemployment rate for June (not seasonally adjusted) was 11.1 percent, up from May's 10.8 percent and down just under 1 percentage point from 12 percent in June 2010, according to the latest report from the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation.

 

 

The current jobless rate represents 15,658 unemployed workers in the county out of a labor force of 141,081.

Osceola County is now ranked the 23rd highest in the state for its unemployment rate, dropping down from 18th place last month; Hendry County, southwest of Lake Okeechobee, has the highest unemployment rate in Florida at 16.2 percent, ousting Flagler County, at 14.6 percent, which had been number one since April.

The jobless rate for the Orlando metropolitan area, which includes Lake, Osceola, Orange and Seminole counties, was 10.4 percent, up from 9.9 percent in May.

Orange County's jobless rate was 10.4 percent; Lake County's was 10.7 percent and Seminole County's was 9.9 percent. Polk County, Osceola County's other neighbor that is not in the metro-area, had a 11.7 percent jobless rate.

Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in June was 10.6 percent, unchanged from May but down 0.8 percentage point from June 2010. The new state unemployment rate represents 982,000 jobless residents out of a labor force of 9,234,000 Floridians.

The nationwide jobless rate for June was 9.2 percent, up from 8.7 in May and down slightly from 9.5 percent in June 2010.
