The Osceola County School District on Thursday received notification that all of the elementary and middle schools receiving grades from the state at this time were A's, B's or C's.

According to a district press release, 40 schools received grades from the Florida Department of Education. The district’s overall grade remains a B, increasing 13 points from last year to be eight points from an A. Ten school grades are not yet out due to new requirements for schools teaching grades 9 through 12 students.

“Overall, the Osceola School District performed extremely well on the 2011 FCAT. The district experienced student and school gains in many areas as reflected by the 2011 school grades for our elementary and middle schools,” Superintendent Terry Andrews stated in the press release.

According to Andrews, 15 schools, or 38 percent, showed an increase in their school grades.

“Special recognition is extended to the following four schools for increasing two letter grades: Boggy Creek Elementary – C to an A; Central Avenue Elementary – D to a B; Cypress Elementary – C to an A; and Pleasant Hill Elementary – C to an A,” Andrews stated.

Three schools, or 7 percent, showed a decrease in their school grades, and 22, or 55 percent, maintained their school grades. In addition, 15 schools maintained their A letter grade.

The district had no low-performing schools at the elementary and middle level, which would have been letters of D or F.

"These outstanding results did not happen overnight, as they reflect the hard work continuously given by our teachers, administrators, students, support staff, and parents," Andrews said. "With a focus on quality professional development for our educators and on raising the achievement level of all students, the district has been successful in making great progress.

“We will continue to provide assistance and effective resources directly into the schools so our students can reach higher levels. Our entire community can take great pride in the performance of our schools, and I look forward to working collaboratively towards our future academic growth."
