About  midnight last night, Osceola County Sheriff's Office Sgt.  Mike Setvin, 44, of St. Cloud, was involved in a motorcycle- pedestrian  accident on U.S. Highway 192 and died from his injuries.

Sgt. Setvin was off duty at the time, and the Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, which occurred near the intersection of Simmons Road and U.S. Highway 192 in Kissimmee. Setvin was the pedestrian.

Setvin was a 16-and-a-half -year veteran of the Sheriff's Office; he joined the agency in November of 1994 and was promoted to sergeant in January of 2005. His current assignment was supervisor in the patrol division.

"This is a tremendous loss to our agency and to the community. Sgt. Setvin was a dedicated law enforcement officer and will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time," stated Sheriff Bob Hansell.

The driver of  the motorcycle was Michael R. Hoadley, 52, of St. Cloud, and he received minor injuries. A passenger on the motorcycle, Mary A Schneider, 45, also of St. Cloud, suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Cloud Regional Medical Center.

According to a patrol report, Setvin was crossing the highway from north to south and the motorcycle was eastbound in the inside lane. Setvin was in the center median and for an unknown reason stumbled onto the roadway and into the path of the motorcycle, where he was hit. The impact caused the motorcycle to land on its right side and slide down the roadway approximately 50 feet before coming to a stop.
