Osceola County,June 10 -- The Osceola County Board of County Commissioners took a step closer to making the after-hours clinic in the Buenaventura Lakes community a reality at its June 6 regular meeting, with its approval to sign a purchase agreement for the property at 2597 Boggy Creek Road .
"This week, our Board has taken a great step in meeting the health care needs of our community," said District 2 Commissioner John QuiƱones, in whose district the clinic will be located. "Access to health care has always been an issue of great concern to me, and the opening of this clinic helps fulfill one of my top priorities."

The Board approved using $222,700 of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program funds to purchase the property for use as an after-hours health clinic, which will be operated by the Osceola County Health Department. The clinic is expected to open in the fall of 2011.

The 2010-2011 CDBG Program Annual Action Plan - approved by the Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 9, 2010 - set aside $578,000 to acquire and rehabilitate real property for a health clinic. The need for a health clinic derived from Osceola County being federally designated as a Medically Underserved Area/Population (MUA/MUP) and as a Primary Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) by the 2010 County Health Rankings, a nationwide report compiled by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
