Every dad needs some Neil Young in his life and what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than the new DVD Neil Young Here We Are In The Years (MVD Entertainment Group).
This is not an official Neil Young project, but if you are a fan of the Canadian singer/ icon (I am I am) this documentary is still a must have.
It was slow-going during the first few minutes of this DVD. I was beginning to wonder if there would actually be any Neil Young songs or interviews. But stick with it. You will be rewarded.
The DVD has lots of background on early Neil, including the singer as a youngster, interviews with former bandmates from The Squires, a band he was in in high school.
The documentary not only traces many performing highligts in his long career (Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills Nash and Young and as a solo artist with several bands including Crazy Horse), but it also traces the many musical influences in Young’s carreer, which means music by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Ventures, Bob Dylan, Little Richard and many more.
The DVD also shows the effect Young in turn has had on other musical performers, including his presence on both the punk scene and grunge.
Young seemingly has evolved changed and survived in a career that has spanned some 40 albums over more than 40 years.
He just keeps rockin’ in the freeworld,
Here We Are In The Years will be released June 21. If you can’t find it at area retailers you can also order it online at http://www.seeofsound.com.
