Dymmek, Burnett each earn large checks at rodeo

Several local cowboys earned first-prize money at the 127th Silver Spurs Rodeo at Heritage Park last weekend.

Hardy Dymmek, of Kissimmee, won the steer wrestling championship and $1,109 with time of 3.4 seconds, beating his brother, Kamry, who finished second in 4.6 seconds.

Jim Burnett, of Kenansville, one of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Southeastern Circuit leaders, won the saddle bronc competition with 82 points. He earned a purse of $912.

Jeff Clair, of St. Cloud, teamed with Miles Ashford to place fourth (7.9 seconds) in team roping. They earned a purse of $297.

Alan Frierson, of O’Brien, won the all-around cowboy championship and $1,315. It was his second straight big payday at the Silver Spurs Rodeo. In February, Frierson tied Jake Shaw for first in steer wrestling, earning $1,915.

Other winners at the 127th edition of the rodeo, one of the largest east of the Mississippi River, were Morgan James and Derrick Freeman in team roping (5.2 seconds), Seth Rodriguez in tie down roping (8.3 seconds) and Bobby Peaden in bull riding, with 73 points. Peaden was the only bull rider to get a qualifying score during the two-day rodeo.

Donna Findley and Brittany Pozzie tied for first (16.3 seconds) in barrel racing. Kaley Bass of Davenport was 10th.

The rodeo offered a total purse of $25,777.
