The Osceola District Boy Scouts of America on May 20 honored local Scouting leaders at its annual banquet, held this year at the Osceola County Council on Aging’s Barney E. Veal Center.

Honored this year and their awards, from left, were: Art Polnasek, Boy Scout Troop 192, St. Cloud, Leadership Award; Craig Veley, Troop 826, Kissimmee, one of three leaders who earned the District Award of Merit (the highest award given out by the district); Eunice Phelps, Troop 826, Silver Beaver award, which is given out by the Central Florida Council Boy Scouts of America, with Phelps the only Osceola District awardee; Joshua Fowler, with Boy Scout Troop 662, accepting the second District Award of Merit for his father, John Fowler; and Vincent Kirsch, Boy Scout Troop 295, Cub Scout Pack 295 and Boy Scout Troop 800, the third District Award of Merit.
