Burn victim has died

The Kissimmee Fire Department received notification Thursday morning from the Orange/Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office that the burn victim in last week’s fire at Polo Run Apartments on Central Avenue in Kissimmee had died.

This is the first structure fire fatality reported in the city, since the triple-fatality mobile home fire in May of 2005, according to city spokeswoman Carla Banks.

“Although they were unable to pinpoint the source of ignition, KFD personnel and the state fire marshal’s office determined this fire to be accidental,” Banks stated.

KFD wants homeowners to make sure they have operational smoke detectors, which are a proven life saver. Residents also can contact KFD to take advantage of its free smoke alarm program.

For more information about fire safety, call the Fire and Life Safety Hotline at 407-518-2585 or send an e-mail to LifeSafety@kissimmee.org.

I-4 lane closures next week

Bridge repair/rehabilitation on Interstate 4 at Reedy Creek in Osceola County will call for lane closures next week.

There will be single and double lane closures from 9 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday. Motorists are urged to drive with care in construction zones.
