The Sunshine State Games, Florida’s annual statewide sports festival, gets under way at Alachua County beginning Friday with a variety of outdoor sports including kayaking, swimming, rowing, tennis, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee and racquetball.

Registration for some sports such as rowing, racquetball, archery and tennis remains available through Thursday.

The action shifts to Polk County June 17-19 for judo, wrestling, table tennis, weightlifting, tae kwon do and karate.

Water polo at the Orlando YMCA International Aquatic Center and inline hockey at Fort Myers also takes place June 17-19.

Registration for fencing has closed.

More than 2,500 athletes are expected to participate.
