Memorial Day activities in St. Cloud

St. Cloud’s Memorial Day ceremony will be at Mt. Peace Cemetery for the presenting and laying of wreaths to honor fallen and deceased military from all of the country’s encounters. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, this year’s distinguished speaker, along with St. Cloud Mayor Rebecca Borders.

Before the ceremony, American Legion Post 80, 1019 Pennsylvania Ave., St. Cloud, will offer an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet from 8 to 10 a.m. for $6.

There will be a Memorial Day tribute Monday evening by the Osceola Community Orchestra, which will play at the St. Cloud lakefront beginning at 7 p.m.

Gant now on KUA board

The Kissimmee City Commission on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of George Gant to a five-year term on the Kissimmee Utility Authority’s board of directors, effective Oct. 1.

Gant is currently serving a partial term on the board left open by the death in 2008 of director William C. “Bill” Hart. That term expires on Sept. 30 of this year.

Gant is former mayor of Kissimmee and retired medical director of the Osceola County Health Department. He holds a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine, and is a 51-year resident of Kissimmee.

Gant will be sworn in at the utility board’s October meeting and serve until Sept. 30, 2016.
