More than 850 Central Florida foster children and their families are invited to enjoy a free day at Fun Spot Action Park in Orlando on May 19, hosted by the Central Florida Christian Chamber of Commerce and other partner agencies as part of National Foster Care Month.

The event, scheduled for 3 p.m. to midnight, is aimed at illuminating the critical need for foster care in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties.

“We wanted to do something special for these kids and the families that have opened their homes and their hearts to them,” said Mark Goldstein, president of The Christian Chamber. “They deserve a night to remember, and we’re grateful to Fun Spot for providing the venue.”

Community Based Care of Central Florida (CBC), the lead agency involved in managing adoption and foster care services in Orange, Osceola and Seminole Counties is teaming with partner agencies The Foundation for Foster Children, Friends of Children and Families, Grace Landing, One Church One Child and Open Hearts Family Services to coordinate the event. More than 350 children in Central Florida are awaiting placement with a foster family, and nearly half a million children in the United States are currently in need of foster care.

“May is the month we not only shed light on the plight of foster children but celebrate the foster families who care for these kids,” said CBC President Glen Casel. “Unfortunately, in our community the need is still great. We’re hoping more local families will offer these kids the safe and loving environment they need.”

Young adults who have aged out of the foster care system will also attend, and will be available for interviews. For more information on fostering in Central Florida visit CBC’s website at www.cbcseminole.org or call 1-866-90-CHILD (24453).

The Central Florida Christian Chamber of Commerce is a non-denominational organization that serves Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake, Volusia and Brevard counties. The chamber is a catalyst for the development of long-lasting positive relationships among member businesses, churches and para-church non-profit organizations.
