Police memorial to be unveiled Tuesday

The Kissimmee Police Department will unveil its new Fallen Officer Memorial at 4 p.m. Tuesday in front of the police department.

The memorial will honor Kissimmee police officers who have died in the line of duty. The funds to construct the memorial were donated.

Also on Tuesday at 6 p.m., the department will host the 2011 Osceola County Law Enforcement Memorial Service at the Osceola High School auditorium. Every year members of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Kissimmee Police, St. Cloud Police and the Osceola County Corrections departments gather for a service to remember those officers who have fallen in the line of duty.

Keynote speakers for the event are Sandra Kocab, Osceola County resident and mother of fallen Tampa police officer Jeff Kocab, and Rick Drew, retired Kissimmee police officer and partner of Thomas Bartholomew, a fallen Kissimmee police officer. In addition, the Chamber Choir from the Osceola County School for the Arts will perform and Kissimmee Police Chief Fran Iwanski will read the roll call of heroes.

“This memorial service is an opportunity for everyone to reflect upon and recognize the contribution of law enforcement personnel,” Iwanski said. “We remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice and are thankful that we haven’t had to add any names to the list in the past 11 years.”

The public is welcome to attend both events. All non-law enforcement guests are asked to visit the check-in table at the auditorium upon arrival.
