Telecommunicators receive state certification

Fifty-five Osceola County Sheriff’s Office communications employees recently became state of Florida Certified 911 Public Safety Telecommunicators. The certification is pursuant to a new state law that requires all personnel whose duties and responsibilities include answering 911 calls or dispatching law, fire and medical services attend a state-approved 232-hour academy and complete a state examination by Oct. 12. The employees who received certification met the three-year minimum service criteria required by the state. The remaining 24 employees will complete the training program by the deadline.
“Telecommunicators play a vital role in public safety. They are the first to receive and dispatch requests from citizens in emergency situations,” Sheriff Bob Hansell stated in a press release. “Ensuring they receive the necessary and required levels of training to meet new state standards elevates the level of service our citizens receive.”
