Fresh off district team championships last week, the Celebration boys and St. Cloud girls track teams will compete today at the 3A Region 2 meet at Harmony starting at 1 p.m.

The top four individuals or relay teams in each event will continue on to the Class 3A state meet at Winter Park May 6.

Celebration, St. Cloud and Harmony all have members of their boys and girls teams competing today.

Five Poinciana High athletes will compete Saturday at the Class 2A state meet at Winter Park after qualifying at their regional meet last Thursday.

Poinciana’s girls 4 x 400 relay of Estelle Esperance, Majjdah Barnett, Gabriel Rodriguez and Kenina Bonner were third at the regional meet in 4:10.

Bonner also will compete in the triple jump (4th, 34-6.25) for the second year in a row.

“We had a great regional meet,” Eagles Coach Bryan McLoughlin said. “The girls (4 x 400) ran eight seconds better than they did at the district meet. All the girls ran good legs. Kenina on her anchor leg took us from sixth to third over the last 100 meters.”

Poinciana’s Joey Decomo qualified in the boys 200 meters (4th, 22.23).

“Our kids ran into a buzz saw,” PHS boys coach Rusty Gould said. “Our kids ran a lot of great times. We only got Decomo out in the 200, but we had many other kids set PRs and shave a lot of time. It was a good day, even though we didn’t get as many out as we wanted.”

Liberty, Osceola and Gateway athletes competed Wednesday at the 4A-1 regional meet at Winter Park. Those qualifiers go to the Class 4A state meet May 7.

Several local athletes at today’s 3A regional meet at Harmony have opportunities to win regional championships, led by Celebration’s Tyler Osorio and Quincy O’Connor. Osorio won the 100 and 400 meters championships last week, and O’Connor was the champion at 1,600 and 3,200 meters.

Osorio placed third in the triple jump last week, but Coach Joel Fox said he did not complete his last jump after safely qualifying.

St. Cloud’s Ashlyn Stadtlander won at 3,200 meters at the district meet against a strong field, and the Bulldogs’ 4 x 800 relay teams, both the boys and the girls, won last week.

Celebration’s Jessica Harter is one of the state’s top Class 3A female pole vaulters. She won last week by clearing 10 feet, far under her personal best of 11-7.

Harmony’s Daniel Foshee won the 300 hurdles and teammate Trevor Haydel won the pole vault at districts.
