Poinciana Boulevard ribbon cutting to be Tuesday

Osceola County Commission Chairman Brandon Arrington will officially open the second phase of the Poinciana Boulevard road-widening project on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the southeast corner of the intersection of Poinciana Boulevard and Trafalgar Boulevard.

The length of the project is approximately 2.6 miles and includes the reconstruction of the existing two-lane rural roadway to a four-lane urban divided facility with four, 12-foot wide lanes, two 4-foot wide bike lanes, 5-foot wide sidewalks and a median. The project broke ground April 21, 2009, and was completed in February 2011 at a cost of $21 million.

“It is a great honor to be able to complete this improvement to our community. This project not only makes it safer for the daily commuter but also helps to expand economic opportunities for the area. However, we must continue to seek funding to construct the other two phases, which are still only two lanes,” Arrington said.
