Youngsters attending one of Osceola County Historical Society’s summer camps will have the opportunity to go canoeing on nearby Shingle Creek.

Summer Camp 2011 is the Osceola County Historical Society’s new offering of three separate five-day history adventure camps for the months of June, July and August.
Each camp will focus on a specific theme and youngsters will experience fun and adventurous activities while learning about the history and people of Osceola County. The following are the scheduled camps:
• Survivor Osceola, June 20-24: Campers will learn how the early pioneers and Seminole Indians survived in the Florida wilderness.
• Blast from The Past, July 11-15: Campers will explore the various aspects of life and living in Florida’s past.
• History’s Mysteries, Aug. 1-5: Over the course of the week, campers will try to solve one of Osceola County’s oldest mysteries.
During the three previous summers, the Historical Society offered one-day camps under the title of Pioneer For A Day. Some of the highlights from those successful camps – such as horse rides, canoeing and nature walks – will be incorporated into the new five-day camps along with completely new activities for the campers to experience and enjoy. Each camp, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will be separated into two age groups: those 5 to 7 years old and those 8 to 12 years. Each day will consist of different activities for each age group.
Registration is $130 for the week ($100 additional child/members), and there is limited enrollment. Campers are required to bring their own lunch each day (the society will provide daily snacks).
The Historical Society and its Pioneer Village are at 750 N. Bass Road, Kissimmee.
