State tennis tourney

The three Osceola County participants at the Class 3A state tennis tournament in Seminole County were eliminated in the first round Monday.

St. Cloud’s No. 1 singles player, Trevor Foshey, withdrew in the first set after straining his Achilles tendon, Coach Dallas Kelsey said.

Celebration’s No. 1 doubles team of Tyler Young and Richard Cruz lost to Jacksonville Wolfson, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6.

Williams to USC

Osceola High 2010 graduate Brenton Williams, a two-time Osceola News-Gazette Player of the Year, signed a basketball scholarship with the University of South Carolina Tuesday, said former Osceola High Coach Steve Mason.

Williams played last season at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville.

Mason said Williams had offers from several more Division I programs, including UCF.

St. Cloud physicals

St. Cloud High will hold its Physical Day Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the gym.

The fee is $15. Pop Warner athletes are welcome to attend.

SCHS Hall of Fame

St. Cloud High School is hosting its annual Hall of Fame Dinner May 6 at 7 p.m. at Royal St. Cloud Golf Links. Price is $25 per person.

This year's inductees are Lucy King, Doug Partin and Johnny Crowe.

Athletic Director Chad Ansbaugh, is currently collecting memorabilia for display. The Hall of Fame golf tournament also will be at Royal St. Cloud May 7 at 8 a.m.

Cost is $65 per player, and tee and hole sponsorships are  available.

SC Aquatic Team

The St. Cloud Aquatic Team, a U.S. Swimming affiliate, welcomes swimmers ages 5-and-over who have experience swimming the length of the pool with a crawl stroke.

All swimmers will participate in a training program focused on technique, endurance and speed.
