The Osceola County School Board has named its 2010-11 academic champions for the winter sports of soccer, basketball, wrestling, weight lifting and competitive cheerleading. This award recognizes student athletes for performance in the classroom, as well as in the athletic arena.

The champions are:

Boys soccer — Harmony High School: 3.253 team unweighted gpa

Girls soccer — Harmony High School: 3.597 team unweighted gpa

Boys basketball — Harmony High School: 3.098 team unweighted gpa

Girls basketball — Harmony High School: 3.31 team unweighted gpa

Boys wrestling — Osceola High School: 3.233 team unweighted gpa

Girls weight lifting — Harmony High School: 3.444 team unweighted gpa

Competitive cheerleading — Osceola High School: 3.468 team unweighted gpa

Each season, the team earning the highest grade point average in each sport from Osceola's eight comprehensive high schools will be presented a certificate at a School Board meeting. The grades of the student athletes are submitted each season to the Florida High School Athletic Association and top schools in the state are also recognized by the association.

“I am proud to recognize these student athletes for their teamwork not only in competition, but in the classroom as well," Superintendent Michael A. Grego said.  "Their success both on and off the playing field speaks to the high standards we have set for our students and the motivation they have to achieve."
