Osceola Senior All-Star Game pits 30 county athletes

For more than 30 Osceola County senior players, basketball season didn’t end in the district or regional playoffs.
Those players get one last shot to take to the hardwood in today’s second annual Osceola County Senior All-Star Game at Osceola High School.

The boys game tips off at 4 p.m., and the girls game will follow. A 3-point shooting contest also will be held. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Teams are being coached by John Jenkins of St. Cloud and Dustin Gassert of New Dimensions in the boys game and Chad Ansbaugh and Jamerson Jones in the girls game.
Osceola High girls coach Barner Cooks, the event organizer and host, said that the goal of this event, aside from getting to take to the hardwood one last time at home, is to give players uncommitted to a college a chance to be seen by college coaches and possibly garner a last-minute offer to play at the next level.
“We have some great unsigned seniors players’ that will be playing in this game, and I would not be surprised if a player or two get attention,” Cooks said.
St. Cloud’s Diana Martinez, MVP of last year’s game (when only a girls game was played), parlayed her appearance into a scholarship with Tennessee Temple University.
Webber International, Warner Southern, Florida Tech and Brevard Community College are among the schools that will have coaches at the game.
