Workforce Central Florida workshops on job skills

Workforce Central Florida will hold a series of skills workshops to provide job seekers with a competitive advantage as they search for a new career.

 

Each course offers skills to help job seekers find, prepare and land their next job. The skills workshops are offered at no cost, but seating is limited and is offered on a first-come basis. The following workshops are available:

• Career Pursuit, Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at JobVantage, 1563 Florida Mall Ave., Orlando, and Monday, March 21, also at JobVantage, but at 4360 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando.

With this course, discover strategies for an effective job search using a variety of traditional and nontraditional methods and how to create a cyber-safe résumé. Discuss why a positive attitude is the one critical element for job search success in a tough economy. Learn strategies for organizing and planning a job search, finding jobs using the hidden job market, tips on how to access these unadvertised opportunities and developing strategies to overcome barriers.

• Planning & Preparing for the Interview, Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Workforce Central Florida, 1392 E. Vine St., Kissimmee.

Identify techniques for creating positive first impressions during the interview process. Review commonly asked interview questions, discuss answers to difficult interview questions, have the opportunity to participate in mock interviews and learn the best ways to follow up with the employer after the interview.

• Job Seeker Services Overview, Friday, March 18, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., JobVantage, 4360 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando.

Discover the services available to assist you with your job search and prepare you to land the job you are seeking. Find information on additional resources you can take advantage of including essential tools needed to find a job in today’s market, information on community resources, details on upcoming special events and programs to assist you in overcoming employment hurdles you may face.

Fix that leak

The week of March 14-20 has been designated as Fix a Leak Week in St. Cloud.

To encourage participation in the week, the city of St. Cloud and Toho Water Authority will be giving away free toilet flappers and dye test toilet tablets at St. Cloud Public Services, 1300 Ninth St., St. Cloud, and two Toho Water Authority locations, 951 Martin Luther King Blvd., Kissimmee, and 601 Country Club Road, Kissimmee.

Vendor Appreciation Day

From 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 25, the Osceola County School District will host a Vendor Appreciation Day at the Extension Services Building at Osceola Heritage Park, 1921 Kissimmee Valley Lane, Kissimmee.

The event, according to district spokeswoman Dana Schafer, is intended to show appreciation to all vendors and to celebrate March as Purchasing Month.

It is an opportunity for local businesses to learn how to do business with various agencies, including the School District, Osceola County, Osceola County Constitutional Offices, the cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud, the Kissimmee Utility Authority and the Toho Water Authority.

A vendor workshop entitled “How To Do Business With Government” will take place from 10 to 11 a.m., with special guest speakers from local governments.
