Before an audience of more than 500 people on Sunday, Feb. 6, Gateway High School’s Business Professionals of America (BPA) team, led by their sponsor, Chad Kimmel, were awarded plaques and medals for their achievement at the Florida BPA State Leadership Conference at the Disney Hilton.  
The team of four competed all day Saturday, Feb. 5, against some of the top high school students from around Florida in both pre-registered and open events, relating to all aspects of the modern business world.  
Receiving six awards for Gateway High School were Richard Belleville, placing  first in C++ programming and second in extemporaneous speaking; Nichole Chavarria placed second in presentation management – individual and third in interview skills; Cynthia Grim placed third in graphic design; and Alexa Arboleda placed fourth in prepared speaking.  
Three of the students from Gateway are eligible to attend the Business Professionals of America’s 2011 National Leadership Conference, “Stand Out From the Crowd,” in Washington, D.C., in May, to compete with other top students preparing for careers in business and information technology according to the press release. The organization’s activities and programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application. The conference. the release stated, is a cohesive agent in the nationwide networking of education, business and industry contributing to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic and technological skills.
