Downtown..Downtown...Downtown..

Well I am feeling in a Petula Clark mood all of a sudden.

I was just looking at her 2011 concert schedule and it looks a bit lean. The girl who was the epitome of mod fashions and ruled the A.M. airwaves of the 1960s has but one appearance this year — Casino de Paris in France in November, so I guess downtown Kissimmee is out of the question this year.

We will persevere. The "British Shirley Temple" as she was known, turns 79 (wow) this year. Well no wonder she isn't doing a wordwide tour. I feel over exerted just going to Google Maps.

Well I know a place where we can go (Petula Petula Petula) and that is downtown Kissimmee for some urban fun without too much cost.

Tonight (Tuesday) for example you can get a free glass of wine at Vintage Vino.  From 5:30-6 p.m. Edward Jones Financial Advisor Rob Rosen will be at the wine shop to give a brief update on the latest market trends, investments and estate strategies.  Following a brief Q & A session, they will even give a way a free bottle of wine.

If beer is more to your liking, Wednesday is Craft Beer Night at Vintage Vino.  Sample the new beer on tap, Red Seal from North Coast.  Drafts are $3 a glass. Select bottles are only $2. Bottle water can cost more than that.

And Thursdays are now Thirsty Thursday's at Vintage Vino. For $20 (from 5 to 7 p.m.) it is happy hour. It is an all you can eat and drink fun time with wine, a nice array of cheeses and more. Last week there was huumus dip and a country pate.

And maybe Petula won't be singing, but Friday night there is live music from 6-9 p.m. with Vic Hill.

Vintage Vino is located at 14 East Dakin Avenue.

You can have dinner in downtown Kissimmee as well Friday night at Signature by the Lake, just about a block behind Dakin Avenue.

Their Friday buffet this week has a Southern Italian theme. There are pesto flatbreads, zuppa di fagiioili (black bean soup for those not from "Da Boot'), fish cakes, Caesar salad, hot and sweet Italian sausage with bowtie pasta, roasted chicken with fresh rosemary, slow roasted pork, rice, potatoes and more.  And it is priced right at $12.50.

Yum.

I will be having a southern meal on Friday night as well, but it has to do with the Silver Spurs Rodeo so it will be a real Southern-type meal.

And there will be no Florida scrub-jays anywhere near the dinner table, I promise.

Question of the Week

Do you think Florida should abolish the red light camera law?
