Athletic directors across the county scrambled Wednesday morning to reschedule contests after the Osceola County School District canceled all after-school, extra-curricular activities on Tuesday.

The decision came around 2 p.m., shortly after the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for all of Central Florida. Heavy thunderstorms moved into the area at about 6 p.m.

"They said as soon as the busses show up at school, get the kids on and get them home," county Athletic Director Ryan Adams said Tuesday afternoon.

The biggest effect is on the 5A District 5 and 4A District 6 boys soccer tournaments at Liberty and Harmony high schools. Tuesday and Wednesday's matches were simply moved back a day at the 5A-5 tournament, and Harmony has moved the semifinals and finals of the 4A-6 soccer tournament to Friday (5 and 7 p.m.) and Saturday (6 p.m.). The Longhorn girls team hosts a regional playoff game against Belleview at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The cancelation also affects a handful of boys basketball games. Liberty was scheduled to host Osceola, St. Cloud was supposed to visit Oak Ridge, Celebration hosted Tavares and Harmony was set to host Poinciana; all of them are district games that must be rescheduled before the district tournaments that begin on Feb. 7.

UPDATE: St. Cloud plays Oak Ridge tonight. Liberty and Osceola will play on Saturday at 7:30, as will Harmony and Poinciana. Celebration hosts Tavares on Monday.

Additionally, St. Cloud and Gateway were supposed to host non-district, non-conference girls basketball games Tuesday; the Bulldogs will play Celebration tonight. Heritage Christian rescheduled its girls and boys doubleheader with Orlando Eastland Christian to Tuesday.
