The Harmony girls soccer team claimed the first district title in program history Friday, beating the host Eustis Panthers, 3-1, in the Class 4A District 6 tournament final.
Sage Leffew and Emily Johnson scored first-half goals to give the Longhorns (14-1) a lead they'd never relinquish. The Panthers would pull to 2-1 in the second half, but Kendall Pollock's goal midway through the second half salted the game away for good.
Eustis beat Harmony three times last year — in the regular season, the district championship and the regional semifinals — and the Longhorns could reverse that this year. Harmony will host District 5 runner-up Belleview (17-6) at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Eustis will travel to Gainesville Eastside, and Thursday's winners will meet on Feb.1. Harmony, who beat Eastside in their first-ever regional playoff game last year, would host next week with a win on Thursday.
