There will be a public meeting from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Kissimmee Civic Center, 201 E. Dakin Ave., Kissimmee, on the proposal to establish a new national wildlife refuge in Florida.

The 150,000-acre Everglades Headwaters National Wildlife Refuge and Conservation Area, as proposed, would include land in Osceola County, most of it along the Kissimmee River Valley. Portions of the proposed refuge also would be in Polk, Indian River, Okeechobee and Highlands counties.

The meeting, the first of four, will provide the public an opportunity to hear a presentation on the proposal and related studies and to ask questions, submit comments, ideas and concerns. Other meetings are planned for Sebring (Feb. 4), Okeechobee (Feb. 9) and Vero Beach (Feb. 10).
