Kissimmee Utility Authority recently named Caleb Day as its 2010 meter reader of the year.
Day was chosen from among the utility’s 20 full- and part-time meter readers for meter reading volume and accuracy as well as his attendance, dependability, leadership and time management during the past year.
Day read 96,087 electric, water and irrigation meters in 2010 with zero errors – a 100 percent accuracy rate. In fact, Day has gone 31 consecutive months without a single reading error. Meter reader Andres “Andy” Mojica was named runner-up for reading 98,838 meters with an accuracy rate of 99.97 percent.
“In a typical year, a KUA meter reader walks nearly 2,000 miles in all weather conditions,” Susan Postans, KUA’s vice president of customer service, said. “They frequently encounter dogs, snakes, spiders, beehives and other potential hazards along their routes, which makes their reading accuracy that much more remarkable.”
KUA’s meter readers ended 2010 with nearly 2 million total meter reads with an accuracy rate of 99.94 percent.
