BVL garden

To the editor:

I heard that the county is looking into a community garden for the Buenaventura Lakes area. While I think this is a really good idea, I have to say that it was brought up years ago.

It seems that now Commissioner John Quinónes wants to take credit for this supposedly “new idea,” while it was actually Claire Dempster who brought the idea before the county a long time ago. And when she did, the commissioner wanted no part of it. Is it because Ms. Dempster had run against him years earlier? Either way, the idea was hers and no one cared. Now he gets to be the hero after barely beating his last opponent and he’s had to resort to stealing ideas.

I am sure he won’t appoint her to the board that will oversee the garden, either.

Project a frill

To the editor:

You know, it’s funny that this subject has come up again considering that when you folks got caught in the fall of this past year building these new sidewalks without even asking for community opinion, that you would bring it up again.

I mean, you know we need to stop spending money in St. Cloud and that’s why you stopped the unapproved sidewalk project  last fall after the citizens expressed their concern. So tell me, did someone leave St. Cloud some money in a will? Did we hit the lottery? The only projects that need to be considered right now are the streets and utilities, law enforcement, etc., not building sidewalks. If anything, we need to show that we are not going to be like the other cities and counties that are around us. We are better than that and some of these frills we can do without right now. Maybe somewhere down the road you might think about these pet projects

Saving a dog

To the editor:

I’d like to thank all the people that tried so hard to save the black and white dog that was dumped on Poinciana Boulevard and Reeves Road on Thursday, Dec. 30.

Knowing that so many people brought food, water, blankets and tried to get it to come so they could give it a home is heartwarming. Just so you will know, when I brought food and water Saturday, Jan. 2, he was gone. Another “savior” stopped and told me they stopped and talked with a gentleman on Friday the 31st  who appeared to be making some headway in getting the dog to trust him enough to come to him. He said the gentleman stated he was going to take him to a rescue that would not kill him. When he came back about an hour later, the dog and man were gone.

To the man that dumped him — he tried so hard to catch your car. He waited so long and wouldn’t come close to so many people because he knew you’d come back. There are so many no-kill rescues, if you couldn’t keep him, you could have at least cared enough to provide for him. After all, he cared a lot for you.

There are so many wonderful dogs at Animal Control. Please save a life.
