Ten city of St. Cloud Public Services Solid Waste Division customers will soon be receiving good news — they were randomly selected to receive a garbage collection credit for a month of service. The winners were notified via mail in December.
The city of St. Cloud Public Services Department conducted a survey in October to measure the public’s interest in several curbside recycling pickup options. More than 3000 responses were received. Each household completing the survey had a chance to win one of 10 credits equal to a month of the household’s garbage collection fee.
The three options on the survey were:
• Add household curbside recycling material pickup service one day per week and continue to collect trash two days a week, adding $2 to the current monthly cost
• Add household curbside recycling material pickup service one day per week and reduce trash collection from two days a week to a single day each week, for the current monthly cost
• Do not add household curbside recycling material pickup service and continue to collect trash two days a week for the current monthly cost. The final results of the survey: The majority of customers responding to the survey overwhelmingly prefer adding curbside recycling material pickup service one day per week and reducing trash collection to a single day per week for the current monthly cost.
The city of St. Cloud Public Services staff will be presenting to City Council a recycling policy based on these results for approval during a future council meeting. The city’s goal is in line with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection goal of 75 percent recycling by 2020.
