Good deed

To the editor:

Tuesday night while shopping at Walmart in St. Cloud, I got to the checkout and realized my wallet was missing from my purse. You can imagine how that felt to be at the register and find out I had no money, no credit cards, nothing.

So I left and drove home as fast as I could, thinking maybe I had left it at home, but no, it was indeed missing.

So I started looking for numbers to call and notify the bank when suddenly the phone rang. It was the St. Cloud Police Department calling to tell me someone had turned in my wallet. I could hardly believe it since we have become so used to things like this usually turning out badly.

So I went to the police station and the officer told me a man had turned it over to him, he had found it in the parking lot at Walmart. I asked for his name so I could call and thank him, but apparently they are not allowed to give out that information.

So anyway, I would like to thank that unknown person not only for returning my wallet, but also reminding me that we do still have decent people here in St. Cloud.

I would like to wish this person a very Merry Christmas and may God bless you.

Congratulations

To the editor:

I am writing to you today to celebrate the success of our partner in education, the Osceola County School District.

Over the last few years our School Board Superintendent Michael Grego, administrators, teachers, parents and students have made incredible strides in improving our schools.  The list of achievements is quite impressive.  One of the most exciting is The state of Florida evaluation of Osceola County high schools. All received an A or B grade. These grades mark significant improvement from where we have been.

To all of the teachers, principals, students, parents, administrators and School Board members who made these grades possible, I send a heartfelt thank you. Your hard work does not go unnoticed. It reflects the growing pride we have in our school system and the confidence we feel that continued improvement will be made and that our community is, and will be, a stronger, more productive place to live and prosper.

As we move into a new year, we should embrace and celebrate the success of our schools and seek ways to assist their efforts whenever called upon.  It is a pleasure to say to our colleagues in the district schools, on behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Osceola Education Foundation, job well done!  The Osceola Education Foundation looks forward to continuing to support you in your great work in the New Year!

Misleading

To the editor:

First off, the article by Marvin Cortner concerning the agreement and lease for the Museum of Military History to relocate to Osceola Heritage Park was right on ... no hiccups or embellishments.

But over on page A-4 in "Our View" with the caption "Museum gets gift" kind of gives the wrong impression, don't you think? And you may have missed the point that the $75k grant was necessary to "shore up" the museum's depleted reserves, due to an absence of funding for three months and the unanticipated three additional months the museum will be in Osceola Square Mall.

Now, to the questions asked at the bottom of the article:

Question one — additional funding; highly unlikely and in my own opinion highly unnecessary, the museum's ultimate goal is self-sufficency.

Question two — upon a lot of input from the Chamber, ORAC, local business, and museum personnel, suitability came into play and alternate plans were presented, (sunshine was adhered to).

Question three — intent has always been to find a suitable, permanent home for the museum, one that would be of benefit to an increase in tourist traffic, open to the general public, accessible and safe for all to visit, one that Osceola County will be proud of. Let us not forget, such a museum will, and has, promoted an increased awareness in our history and heritage within the Osceola School system, something all of us are proud of.
