The sound of dribbling returns again to the Silver Spurs Arena Monday morning, when the 30th installment of the Great Florida ShootOut begins.
Monday and Tuesday will be busy, with eight games each day beginning at 10 a.m. Christian County from Hopkinsville, Ky. takes on Melbourne Holy Trinity Episcopal in the opener.
Lexington, S.C. is scheduled to take on Lake Highland Prep at 11:30 a.m., followed by Galveston (Texas) Ball High and Bartow at 1 p.m. and Fort Myers against Wekiva at 2:30 and Ft. Myers Bishop Verot and Dr. Phillips at 4 p.m.
Oviedo Coach Ed Kershner, former Osceola High coach who led the Kowboys to a 37-0 record and the 1983 state title and regarded as the “Father of the ShootOut,” brings his Lions in to face Plantation American Heritage at 5:30 p.m. Kershner was two wins shy of tying the career coaching wins record in Florida of 760 entering a game Wednesday night against Winter Springs.
Osceola (6-3) and Poinciana put five-game winning streaks on the line at 7 and 8:30 p.m. The Kowboys takes on Bishop McNamara High School from Forestville, Md. The Eagles close the day against San Diego  (Calif.) Hoover High.

Wins for the locals will be tall orders Monday. Should they do so, they will play at 7 and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Losses Monday mean consolation bracket games at 1 and 2:30 p.m.
Both team’s coaches expect and ask for stern tests annually on ShootOut Monday.
?We normally choose one of the top three teams in the tournament to play first, due to the fact that we want to keep the tournament strong throughout,” PHS Coach Jay Lunce said. “This might be one of our stronger fields that we have had in a while.”
OHS Coach Steve Mason the Kowboys aren’t in this tournament annually, “to hide.”
?I feel the ShootOut was instrumental in getting us ready to play in the tough Polk County district we are in and the success we had in winning it last year.”
Osceola claimed 3rd place in the ShootOut last year, their best tournament showing since 1997.
The event concludes Thursday with the consolation finals and fifth and third place games and tournament championship.
Daily admission is $10 per day, or $5 for students. Week-long tournament passes are available for $30, $15 for students.
