Bok Tower Gardens will host a garden scavenger hunt on Christmas Day from noon to 4 p.m. The first four families to finish will receive a private tour of the Founder’s Room on the first floor of the Singing Tower at 4 p.m. All other participants will receive a pair of tickets for the Christmas at Pinewood holiday home tour open through January 2. Visit www.boktowergardens.org/christmas for clues and information about the scavenger hunt.

“We welcome families who want to give their children a safe place to play outside and experience the wonders of nature,” said David Price, Gardens’ president. “For last minute shoppers looking for a great holiday gift, our membership annual pass offers free admission every day of the year.”

Tours of the 20-room, 1930s Pinewood Estate will be available Christmas Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Carillonneur William De Turk will perform Christmas carols from around the world during Singing Tower carillon concerts at 1 and 3 p.m.

This month’s garden celebration features 14 unique varieties of poinsettias with displays around the Visitor Center and more than 200 red and white poinsettias at Pinewood Estate. Numerous live poinsettia plants have been potted together in large hanging displays near the entrance to Pinewood. Many unique plants are on sale at the gift shop which will be open on Christmas Day along with the Blue Palmetto Café from noon to 5 p.m.

Nearly 200 volunteer “angels” decorate rooms, provide tours, drive shuttles and serve as room guides for thousands of visitors to Christmas at Pinewood. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Mediterranean-style Pinewood Estate was built by wealthy industrialist Charles A. Buck and typifies the winter retreat lifestyle of early Florida. Gardens’ founder Edward Bok and his family also had a winter home nearby.

Christmas at Pinewood tours are Monday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults; $6 for children ages 5-12, free for children under 5; $7 members. Tickets do not include general Gardens admission and can be purchased at the entrance gate, Visitor Center, Pinewood Estate, and online at www.boktowergardens.org. Group rates are available.

Sponsored by AT&T, CAP Trust, Ledger Media Group, WEDU and Winter Haven Hospital, Christmas at Pinewood offers visitors the opportunity to vote for their favorite room designs. The winners of the “People’s Choice Awards” will receive dinner for eight at Pinewood Estate, a $50 gift certificate at the Tower & Garden Gift Shop and tickets to Concert Under the Stars on April 30.

Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for ages 5-12. Members and children under 5 are admitted free. For more information contact Bok Tower Gardens, 1151 Tower Boulevard, Lake Wales FL 33853; 863-676-1408 or visit www.boktowergardens.org
