The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday arrested Leonel Abreu, 18, of 403 Poinciana Circle, Kissimmee, for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

At approximately 9:59 p.m., Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to 233 Gardenia Road. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a woman who said she was traveling on Osceola Parkway near Briarwood Drive when she noticed a black Ford F150 following closely behind her. She could hear a siren coming from the truck and what sounded like someone speaking through an intercom.

The victim said she pulled over because she thought it was a law enforcement traffic stop. The driver in the truck approached her vehicle and told her to turn off the engine and put her car keys on the hood of her car. The victim did not comply so the suspect fled the area in his vehicle. The victim followed the suspect and was able to get a license plate number, which led authorities to the suspect at his residence.

Abreu cooperated with deputies and told them he and his friends were bored and did not know why they pulled the victim over, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Abreu told deputies he was fully aware the incident might appear as if he were a law enforcement officer. Based on his statements and the information provided by the victim, Abreu was arrested. He was booked into the Osceola County Jail with $2,500 bond.
