The St. Cloud Senior Citizen Center held its 45th Annual Queens Ball Nov. 30.
Director Irene Lamano gave the welcome address and introduced candidates: Peggy Bruce, Line Dance Club; Lois Sloan, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky Club; Faye Thomas, Seniorsize, and Sandy Sprague, T.O.P.S. — Take Off Pounds Sensibly. Candidates had to belong to one of the Senior Center clubs that meet six months out of the year. Candidates were judged for personality, poise and appearance.
Past queens in attendance were interviewed and music for the event was provided by the Osceola County Community Orchestra.
Entertainers Cal Coggins and Jeb Ferguson conducted an added feature as they performed for the audience. A “Tribute to the Queen” poem was presented by Lamano to newly elected 2011 Senior Center Queen Sandy Sprague.
Shirley Hood, 2010 immediate past queen, gave her farewell speech and placed the traditional red velvet robe on Sandy’s shoulders. Richard Cox, Senior Center president, presented the queen with a dozen roses and 2006 Past Queen, Irene Lamano, placed a tiara crown on the queen’s head to culminate the celebration.
Mayor Rebecca Borders invited the queen to receive a proclamation at City Hall in December and Sprague lit the city’s Christmas tree. The queen and her court also had a float in the St. Cloud Christmas Parade.
