Eagles soar over Bulldogs, 62-48 PDF Print E-mail

Poinciana remained unbeaten in the Orange Belt Conference Thursday with a 62-48 boys basketball win at St. Cloud.The Eagles, 6-1 and 2-0 in the conference, were led by Osanto Marc's 18 points.

Lex Curry (13) and Sherwood Vinson (12) also scored in double figures for Poinciana. Zack Hull led the Bulldogs, 3-4, with 15. Jens Soto added 13.It was the 4A District 6 opener for both teams.
The Eagles led, 24-21, at the half and pulled ahead by nine at the end of the third period as Curry, Stefan Moody and Vinson scored in the the last 20 seconds.
The Bulldogs could pull no closer than seven in the fourth quarter.
Poinciana Coach Jay Lunce said that each game a different player steps forward to lead his team.
"That's the advantage of having good depth," he said. "We won't run into problems unless they all go cold."
St. Cloud, dominated by underclassmen, played well in spots Thursday, Coach Tim McMullen said.
"We've got a little bit of talent. We just need to work on our consistency," he said.
The Eagles edged Gateway, 51-50, Tuesday.

Poinciana hosts Freedom Friday at 7:30 p.m. before Tavares plays at the Eagle gym Monday at 7:30 p.m. in a district contest.St. Cloud visits Gateway next Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Also Thursday, Osceola improved to 3-3 by beating Winter Haven, 56-52, in a 5A-5 contest. Michael Sanchez had 16 for the Kowboys, who are 2-1 in the district.
The Kowboys stopped previously unbeaten Haines City, 78-61, in the district Wednesday.
The Kowboys open their new gym Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. against Liberty.
