Osceola County fire departments are doing more than just decorating this holiday season. Kissimmee Fire Department, Osceola County Fire Rescue and St. Cloud Fire Rescue want the public’s help to “Keep the Wreath Green.”
The three departments will display large wreaths with green light bulbs at designated fire stations during the month of December. Each time there is a residential fire within a fire department’s jurisdiction, the fire department will replace a green bulb on the wreath with a red bulb. The goal is to have no red bulbs at the end of the month.
“The ‘Keep the Wreath Green’ campaign is an educational opportunity for residents to learn and follow fire and life safety tips,” Bob King, KFD fire chief, said. “All fire departments experience an increase in call volume during the holidays and many of these hazards are due to home heating equipment, such as space heaters and fireplaces, holiday decorations, candles and cooking. Many of these fires can be easily prevented if residents follow the appropriate precautions.”
“This is our third year participating in this campaign and we certainly hope that every wreath in the county stays green so that everyone can have a safe and joyous holiday season” SCFR’s Fire Chief Bill Johnston said.
Richard A. Collins, OSCFR fire chief added, “The holidays are a time of celebration with friends and family. Taking the time to ensure safe practices during this holiday season needs to be the number one goal of everyone. Make sure you do your part in keeping your family safe. Please help us in our campaign to ‘Keep the Wreath Green.’”
