Santa is not the only person coming to Osceola County in December. So is author Marc Franco of Winter Garden. He has authored a new children’s novel, “The Kringle Chronicles: Catching Santa.”
As part of the national book launch, Franco is scheduled to visit Osceola County students in December. His free 40-minute PowerPoint presentation, “Speaking Digital to the Natives,” is being applauded by Florida educators. His book, available everywhere books are sold, has become hugely popular in Central Florida.
Franco, a self-described reader, author and gamer, uses his presentation to speak to the Digital Natives (the students) in their language and because of this he quickly establishes a rapport with his audience. In one 40-minute session, Franco manages to touch on imagination (thinking inside and outside of the box), video gaming (the good and the bad), reading for entertainment and the teacher favorite — FCAT Writes. The presentation is directed at third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders.
In Franco’s book, it is six days before Christmas and incredibly weird things are happening in 11-year-old Jakob’s Florida neighborhood. His best friends — Logan, Shig and Fleep — are convinced their Christmas is in danger, and then live snowmen strangely appear and confirm the threat. Jakob dismisses the bizarre events as nothing more than an elaborate hoax concocted by the bully down the street. But when the bully turns into smoke, a magical and powerful stranger appears as the mastermind behind the mayhem. The stranger demands the unimaginable and impossible: that Jakob catch Santa — or else.
Franco and his family live in Winter Garden. Franco is getting positive feedback from readers, and he added that parents have let him know they are pleased the book has no offensive language.
