Everyone loves a parade! The 17th annual Poinciana Christmas Parade will come to town Saturday.
The parade steps off from Doverplum Avenue at 11 a.m. (parade participants are asked to be there by 10 a.m.) The parade’s route will be the same as last year — Cypress Parkway. Plan your day accordingly, but make time to come see the parade.
Directly following the parade, there will be a “Battle of the Bands” — Liberty vs. Poinciana. Floats and walking groups will be judged and the winners will receive trophies. This will happen in the Regions Bank parking lot area.
Cheer on the parade participants and share the holiday spirit.

One of the most beautiful reminders of the real reason for the season is the living nativity at Poinciana Christian Church, 3181 Pleasant Hill Road. The drive-through Christmas story entitled “Journey to Bethlehem” is a free event. Enjoy this special presentation Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This runs continuously between 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The community also is invited to enjoy a Christmas jazz concert Sunday, Dec. 19, at 6 p.m. This is another free presentation.

Even the Poinciana Branch Library is in a festive mood. Welcome the Chestnut Elementary School Band to the library for its first-ever public performance today from 6 to 7 p.m. Under the direction of Brunilda Dickenson, this 10-member band may be small in number but big in spirit.
Following Chestnut Elementary School’s premier performance, the library’s Jolly Holly Party will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Create festive crafts and play games that celebrate the season.
All library programs are free and open to the public

The Poinciana Ladies Club will celebrate the holidays with a catered dinner at the Poinciana Community Center, 395 Marigold Ave. The dinner/dance gala will be Wednesday, at 6 p.m. Cost is $10 per person Musical entertainment will be provided.
This dinner/dance is not just for the ladies. Men may also purchase a ticket and attend. Please bring an unwrapped new toy to donate. Donations will also be accepted for the women’s shelter.
