As a result of Florida’s special session, Lee Douglas, a Winter Garden resident and Democrat, recently declared his candidacy for the Florida House of Representatives, district 41, in 2012.

Douglas said that the legislative special session that started Nov. 16 prompted his decision to once again run against state Rep. Steve Precourt, R-Orlando, who was just re-elected Nov. 2. Precourt beat Douglas and Florida Tea Party candidate Jan Foley.

Douglas said that key vetoes from Gov. Charlie Crist were overturned during the special session, among them House Bill 1565.

Douglas works at Walt Disney World Resort in workforce management and also is an adjunct professor teaching political science and critical thinking.

Douglas, who moved to Florida in 1978, said he looks forward to representing parts of Lake, Orange and Osceola counties.

District 41 includes the communities of Bay Lake, Campbell, Celebration, Citrus Ridge, Clermont, Gotha, Intercession City, Lake Buena Vista, Minneola, Montverde, Oakland, Poinciana, Windermere and Winter Garden.
