Harmony High placed second at the boys 2A-2 regional swimming meet last week and 11 Longhorns advanced to Friday’s state meet at the Orlando YMCA Aquatic Complex.

Gainesville (302) edged Harmony (252) for the regional championship, but all three Harmony relays advanced to state.

“Finishing second out of 42 region teams isn’t bad,” Horns Coach Terry Brown said. “All of our guys had great swims. Everyone dropped their times.”

Harmony’s 400-meter freestyle relay (3:22.95) of Luke Roberts, Mitchell Mungall, John Roberts and Tyler Cunningham finished second in the district and is seeded ninth at the state meet.

The 200 medley relay (1:44.34) of Cunningham, Brandon Graber, Sam Steele and Jesse Tetreault was third at district and is seeded 12th at state.

The 200 freestyle relay (1:33.75) of Luke and John Roberts, Steele and Brice Howard was fourth at the district meet and is seeded 16th Friday.

Cunningham, one of two seniors among the qualifiers, will compete in the 200 IM (2:05.74, school record) as the 22nd seed and in the butterfly (56.15) as the 21st seed.

Luke Roberts (22.75) is seeded 15th in the 50 free, and Graber (1:04.35, school record) is seeded 16th in the breaststroke. Graber shaved 2 seconds off the school record.

Divers Larry McVicker (355.35, 13th seed) and Logan Tindall (332.20, 21st), the only other senior among the qualifiers, also advanced.

“The good thing is that everyone who qualified will be back next year, except Tyler and Logan,” Brown said.

Athletes from St. Cloud, Celebration, Poinciana, Gateway and Osceola competed at regional meets, but only the Harmony boys advanced.
