To help all the residents of our community regardless of the challenges they are experiencing embrace the Thanksgiving season, the Osceola County Council on Aging will host its annual community Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Barney E. Veal Center, 700 Generation Point, Kissimmee. There is no cost for the dinner for residents.
“We invite elderly and disabled adults who are alone and families in need to join us to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday,” Cathy Arft, council dietary manager, said.
Arft and her staff and volunteers will be working overtime to ensure the meal is prepared on time.
“A traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings is just the recipe to make your day a lot happier and certainly much healthier,” she said.
The dinner is an annual event sponsored by the council for more than two decades. Though challenging during times when the need is greater and donations are fewer, council officials said it was an integral part of the community, ensuring that no residents go hungry for food and friendship on the national holiday, according to a council press release. Any individual or business interested in contributing to the dinner with shelf staple canned goods, pies or turkeys, can contact the council at 407-483-1493.
To volunteer to deliver meals or assist with serving the dinner, contact Connie Bellanceau at 407-933-9525.
