Sometimes it’s intimidating to try new things. Some people may find it difficult to join groups that have been in existence for a while, thinking that bonds and friendships may have already been established. There’s a new club forming and the first meeting is tomorrow.
Rotary International is an organization of more than 1.2 million businesses, professionals and community leaders. Rotarians provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill.
Rotarians are business and professional leaders who take an active role in their communities. A Rotary club contains a diverse group of leaders from the community. This is a forum for community leaders to take action that shapes the community. It is also an opportunity to build lifelong friendships and experience personal fulfillment of providing volunteer services to others.
A new and exciting Rotary Club is coming to Poinciana. Learn more about Rotary at an open house Friday at Living Water Fellowship, 4101 Pleasant Hill Road, at 7:15 a.m. for networking and the program will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m.

The Poinciana Veterans Club has a special speaker scheduled for its November meeting. Timothy Liezent, medical director of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Orlando, will present information Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m., at the Poinciana Community Center, 395 Marigold Ave.
Spouses and family members of veterans as well as all those who are interested are encouraged to attend. Liezent will discuss services and updates on the new medical center. The audience also may ask Liezent questions.
The Poinciana Veterans Club meets the second Tuesday of each month. For more information, contact Commander Valentin Ramos at 863-427-0900.

Mind the trick-or-treaters on the streets this Halloween weekend. Small children should be accompanied by adults. Stay safe!

If you attended any recent Poinciana events like the Poinciana Area Council’s Community Update or the Hispanic Heritage Festival, you had the opportunity to meet several candidates running for office. Candidates like Jean Reed, Mike Horner, Luis Alvarez and even Alex Sink have been in Poinciana. Marco Rubio was in Solivita this past May. These candidates share one common thread — they realize Poinciana has many residents with assorted needs and they are looking for your vote.
The rest is up to you. If you are not aware of the candidates – their positions and if they are incumbents their accomplishments – take the next few days to find out. Find out what the different proposed amendments to the State Constitution means and how they may affect you.
That’s your assignment for the week. Make sure you exercise your right to vote Nov. 2.
