St. Cloud Fire Rescue personnel are committed to keeping St. Cloud residents safe and healthy and have worn pink T-shirts every Friday during October to help promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“Our employees are wearing the T-shirts in an effort to promote public awareness of this disease and the need for a cure,” Fire Chief Bill Johnston said. “We are very thankful to Kissimmee Bay Rotary Club for their generous donation of pink T-shirts for our entire department. Because of this generosity, we are able to help promote this important cause within our community. All of us need to remember that no matter how the word gets out, the important thing is that we are joining in a global movement to end breast cancer. We are honored to be a part of the awareness campaign.”
With the donated T-shirts, personnel are better equipped to spread the awareness message that breast cancer not only affects almost every family, but that it may be curable, if detected early. Breast cancer is an illness that affects one in eight women. Men also are affected, although male breast cancer is rare, according to the National Cancer Institute.
This year, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month observes its 25th year of education and awareness. For more details, visit www.nbcam.org or www.cancer.gov.
