If there’s such a thing as a good loss, Harmony Coach Dayne Brown hopes his team took it last Friday.

The Longhorns fell to Bishop Moore, 34-21, on Friday despite trailing just 20-14 and driving with the ball in the fourth quarter before an interception that the Hornets (5-2) returned for a touchdown.

One of the few bright sides is that the game didn’t count in the race for the 4A District 7 title – but this Friday’s game at Edgewater at 7:30 p.m. most certainly does.

Both the Horns and Eagles are 2-0 in 4A-7, and the winner, while getting a very beneficial leg up, still won’t clinch a playoff spot. The loser, on the flip side, will have a lot of work to do.

“This district is still anybody’s ball game,” Brown said. “And, it’s the start of a tough stretch for us.”

Harmony (4-2, 2-0) led 7-0 on C.J. Clayton’s 2-yard run, his first of two scores, but Bishop Moore scored the next three touchdowns and the Longhorns spent the second half playing from behind and trying to narrow the gap.

“We had our chances, the score doesn’t indicate how close the game was,” Brown said. “We could have done things better. We just killed ourselves with mistakes against a good team that’s well coached and doesn’t make them. We stalled six drives with penalties and dropped passes of which most would have been first downs.”

Quarterback Adam Harvey led the team with 20 carries for 119 yards and scored on a short touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

“Adam made some really good reads running the ball, it was probably his best game as far as his leadership,” Brown said. “Overall, I think we got better for playing this game.”

Edgewater (3-3, 2-0) also lost last week, 42-7, to Winter Park. The Eagles were ranked eighth in the state Class 4A poll before that game, and probably enter this game with a chip on their shoulders, Brown said.

“They’ll come in mad, I’m sure,” he said. “They’ve got a lot of great athletes, and a lot of speed. We have to keep their offense off the field and make them work for every inch. It’s a big test for us.”

Edgewater runs a spread-option attack with a handful of threats.

Quarterback J.B. Woodman distributes the ball among backs Jonathan Altman, J.B. Altman and Alton Howard, who also is a threat as a Wildcat quarterback and a receiver.
