Parents and community members are invited to make plans now to be a part of the second annual Teach-In Osceola Thursday, Nov. 18.
All Osceola County public schools are in the process of inviting thousands of individuals to "teach for a day" to underscore the critical role communities need to play in education.
Osceola County's Teach-In offers parents, business leaders and community members the opportunity to enhance learning for students by going into classrooms as school volunteers for an hour or two up to the whole day, whatever their schedule permits.
Whether Teach-In volunteers read a book aloud to students, talk about their careers, teach a lesson or tell students about a hobby, expertise or travels, students will benefit from the experience. Participants have the opportunity to select the school that they would like to volunteer at, as well as select the time they are available, teacher/grade level preference and type of presentation they will give.
Interested individuals may register to be part of the day in one of three simple ways:
• Online at www.osceola .k12.fl.us;
• Stop by the school of their choice to fill out a speaker registration form; or
• Call the district’s Community Relations Office at 407-518-2926 weekdays, between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
"I encourage our parents and community residents to take an hour or two out of their day on Nov. 18 to make a difference for students," said Superintendent Michael Grego.
"The Teach-In highlights the importance of bringing together teachers, school staff, parents, students and communities in a unified effort to build great public schools," he said.
