“What’s Up Poinciana…,” is the clever title of community update 2010. Hosted by the Poinciana Area Council, which operates under the Kissimmee/Osceola County Chamber of Commerce), this year’s event will be held at Living Water Fellowship Church, 4101 Pleasant Hill Road.
This event will be held tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. This free public event has an agenda full of information important to everyone who resides in or does business with the community of Poinciana.
A political candidate “meet and greet” will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Confirmed candidates are Jose Alvarez, Tea Party candidate, District 79, Florida House of Representatives, Jean Reed, Polk County Commissioner, district 4, and Joshua Davis, Independent, House district 65. Just added to the meet and greet is Mike Horner, district 79, Florida House of Representatives.
From 6 to 7 p.m., the Osceola County Health Department will offer free health screenings. You will be able to check your glucose level as well as blood pressure.
This one-hour period before the community update is an opportunity for attendees to visit the tables of the various services offered to Poinciana residents. Health services, real estate and community resources will have tables set and will include information. Pick up a copy of the Know your Neighbor guide and community resource guides for both Osceola and Polk counties. The Poinciana Y will be on hand to distribute information.
The community update portion of the night happens from 7 to 9 p.m. All four of our local high schools — New Dimensions, Liberty, Poinciana and Haines City — will have their principals as speakers. Goals and achievements as well as strategies will be discussed.
Speakers from the Osceola County Health Department will speak about services available. The Friends of the Poinciana Hospital may have good news to share.
A 15-minute intermission will feature a performance by Living Water Fellowship’s Crossover Stepperz step team.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd and Osceola County Sheriff Bob Hansell will discuss crime statistics. Poinciana is unique with its encompassing of two counties. Since crime does not follow county boundaries, however, both sheriffs will discuss safety tips.
“What’s Up Poinciana” concludes with a 30-minute question-and-answer period. Attendees will be given paper on which to write their questions. Members of the Poinciana Area Council will collect them then share with the audience and give the speakers the opportunity to respond.
Make sure you’re there tonight. Free refreshments and childcare for ages 1 to 5 will be provided. This community event is sponsored by Regions Bank, Poinciana; ReMax/Pioneer Poinciana; Urban Trust Bank, Winter Haven; TrustCo Bank, Davenport; and Living Waters Fellowship Church.
