Despite earning a share of the lead in 4A District 7, there’s no stepping back and taking a breath for Harmony.

The Longhorns, off a 44-0 win over Poinciana, readies themselves this week for an interesting non-district showdown at Bishop Moore in Orlando.

Harmony (4-1, 2-0) won the battle of field position and turnovers against the Eagles (0-5, 0-2). It scored all its points in the first half, including a fumble recovery in the end zone by Will Hastings, and six sacks and an interception on defense.

HHS Coach Dayne Brown said it was a great night for the program — the team is still tied at the top of 4A-7, everyone got a chance to play and everyone came out healthy.

“We were pleased with the outcome and to get a district win,” he said. “Afterwards, you look at the film and see what you did wrong, and you go about fixing it if you want your season to go far.

“We got to play a lot of kids, and C.J. (Clayton) and (quarterback) Adam Harvey did a good job. We worked our young quarterback in and the defense did a nice job. It was a team effort.”

Running back Christian Acevedo, half of a potent two-man tandem with Clayton, was held out with ankle and shoulder injuries.

Brown said, “He is going to be out for a while.”

Clayton carried just six times for 81 yards scored on runs of 43 and six yards. Quarterback Adam Harvey completed all three of his pass attempts for 38 yards, hitting Brad Foulke (22 yards) and Alexander Britton (10) on touchdown passes. Britton, a freshman, came in at quarterback and led the offense, carrying seven times for 51 yards.

Sophomore Forrest Osborne added a 17-yard touchdown run.

On defense, Alex Githens (19 total tackles), Hastings (12) and Brandon Sklarek (12) all had a sack, and Anthony Ocasio (10) had two. Trey Bartlett had an interception.

Bishop Moore, 4-2 after a 29-10 win over South Sumter last week, was a district opponent of the Longhorns in 2007-08.

Brown said the Hornets, who run out of multiple sets led by senior quarterback Mike Calabro, are not a team to overlook, said Brown. The Longhorns have a 4A-7 matchup at Edgewater next week that will be for first place in the district.

“It’ll be a tough test, we’re in a stretch where it’s getting tough,” Brown said. “Bishop Moore is really, really good. They’re more balanced on offense than they have been. They’ll throw a lot of different looks at us, and they’re really good defensively.

They don’t do anything to beat themselves so they’re very fundamental on both sides of the ball. We’ve got to play well to win this week.”

Harmony’s 27-23 win last year over the Hornets was its first in four tries. The Longhorns beat them in a district tiebreaker in 2007 to win the district title.
