Early voting begins Oct. 18

Voters, who don’t want to take the chance of standing in line on Nov. 2 can take advantage of two weeks of early voting, which begins Monday Oct. 18 and runs through Saturday, Oct. 30.
There are six conveniently located sites throughout the county for early casting of ballots. Registered voters can vote early at any of the five county libraries and at the Supervisor of Elections office at 2509 E. U.S. Highway 192 in Kissimmee.
Early voting hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
Any voter from any precinct can vote at any of the early voting sites.
“A registered voter can live in Holopaw and go vote at the Kissimmee library during early voting,’’ Supervisor of Elections Mary Jane Arrington said. “Early Voting is about making it more convenient for voters. That is one of the reasons we added a sixth site at the Celebration Library this year. We want to make sure everyone has a chance to vote.”
Arrington said early voting, which also offers more convenient hours and the option to vote on Saturdays, appeals to voters who may have problems getting to the polls on Election Day.
“Life happens. Sometimes you can’t get out of the house in time on Election Day to stop by the polls before going to work or starting your day,’’ Arrington said. “Or you might get stuck working late and not be able to get to the polls by 7 p.m. Early voting gives you 12 days to be able to vote when it is convenient for you.’’
All registered voters in Osceola County should be receiving a sample ballot in the mail in the next few days. Each ballot is specific to that voter. The sample ballot also includes a map of the voter’s polling location. It will have the name of the location, the address of the polling site and a map. Some locations may have changed, so voters should be sure to check their polling location prior to Election Day.
Registered voters also can exercise their voting privilege by requesting an absentee ballot be sent to them by mail. A registered voter can call the elections office and request a ballot be sent to them or they can stop by the office and fill out the form.
“The best thing about absentee ballots is you can fill them out in the comfort of your own home. I have had people tell me they filled their ballot out in their pajamas while watching the morning news,’’ Arrington said. “All they have to do is follow the instructions and mail them back to us or drop them off at an early voting site or at the elections office before 7 p.m. on Nov. 2.’’
