Harmony remains OBC pick after win at OHS

With the Orange Belt Conference swimming meet less than two weeks away, on Oct. 20, Harmony’s boys and girls, the defending champs, have established themselves as the favorites again.
The Longhorns won a dual meet against Osceola Tuesday by scores of 140-46 (boys) and 101-85 (girls) at the Osceola YMCA.
The Longhorns won every event except girls diving.
Winners for the Lady Longhorns included Lindsey Saute, Katie Davis, Kendall Knight, Briana Felitti, Olivia Missigman, Allison Felitti and Alex Latta.
“Our girls really stepped up and swam hard against a talented Osceola team,” Lady Longhorns Coach Lori O’Rourke said.
Winning for the Harmony boys were Tyler Cunningham, John Roberts, Brandon Graber, Luke Roberts, Larry McVicker, Mitchell Mungall, Sam Steele and Jesse Tetreault.
“Our boys did well again. We are looking forward to the state series meets later this month,” Harmony boys Coach Terry Brown said. “One of our goals is to win a district championship and move as many swimmers as possible to the regional and state meet.”
Although the Lady Longhorns won Tuesday, O’Rourke said Osceola remained a serious contender for the OBC title, something that Harmony has won for the past five years.
“The OBC meet will be a challenge due to all the other teams being included,” she said.
Osceola girls coach Krystle Singleton was encouraged by her team’s effort.
“My girls swam well. I was very happy with their performances, and we even had a few season best times, which I’m thrilled with,” she said.”When you’re working hard and you do a season best in the middle of the season it’s pretty amazing.”
Sarah Lambert (100 free, 200 free), Kendall Castillow (200 IM, 500 free), Brooke Barron (50 free), Taylor Murphy (100 breast) and Jenny Gutierrez (100 breast) all set personal records Tuesday.
Jordan Copeland and Jordan Parrish have placed first and second at every dual meet this season, Singleton said.
Both teams compete at the Florida Spa and Pool Association meet today at the Orlando International YMCA.
Celebration, Poinciana, St. Cloud and Gateway will also compete at the OBC swimming meet, which will be held at the Makinson Aquatic Center.
